FROM: kirstein.jean@cdc.org you make it out of all that mess okay?
[she doesn't hold it against him. he...hasn't exactly seen her at her best and brightest recently, and when you're being a debbie downer, you drag other people with you, too. and admittedly, his realism is refreshing. it drives her to do better.
still, it's nice to see that he's decided to check up on her. odd, but still much appreciated. she smiles a little at her blackglass when she spots his name.]
FROM: akame@cdc.org
i'm doing fine, thank you. it's good to see you're alright, too, jean. you didn't come across those butterflies, did you? i'd hate to think you'd gotten poisoned at some point, and i wasn't there to help.
[akame breathes a sigh of relief once peter's message blips into her blackglass. because after she encountered Thing 2 having a hell of time with the jekhes' venom, she was starting to freak out.
since it appears parkers can't catch a break.]
FROM: akame@cdc.org
alive and well. i'm glad to hear that you are, too. and as for my drop...it was scenic at best, full of poisonous butterflies at worst. your doppleganger in particular took a number of bad hits.
but...shots? did you meet sentient life already. or did you have to fight something that required a ranged assault?
FROM: akame@cdc.org
ah...now there's some more good news. did you win her over somehow? she seems...rather stern.
but how about a celebratory meal, if you haven't taken one already?
[as the camp settles (or not, new recruits confused and old recruits mourning losses), the morning light spilling down chilly and still.]
[also still: an exhausted ginger, laying face-down in the mud in front of a rover.]
[those last five steps really get a person, you know. feel free to join him, shake your head at him, kick him, yell at him or any combination of the above. or, sure, another, kinder option. he's definitely out cold.]
[Ever since she watched yet another person die before her very eyes, Akame's been wandering aimlessly throughout the camp, trying to find something to do to make herself stop thinking about endless scenarios in which she could've done something to avert that outcome. But the camp's trashed, there are too few trees left standing, and there's literally nothing to do.
Except she sees one Shoyou Hinata flopping onto the mud, and Akame's listless stare abruptly shifts into one of panic.
(oh, no.)
(she doesn't see any blood, but---)
(not again. please not again---)]
Hinata?
[And in an instant, she's crouched next to him, looking him over. Yep, no blood. Still, though---]
Please, don't be hurt...
[Said in a murmur as. Yes. She's actually lifting up his shirt to check for injuries. Hey, if she could do it to Tatsumi, she can do it to Hinata.
Her intentions are pure.
But, of course, not everyone will see it that way.]
[it takes her a little bit to respond. granted, she's not in the best emotional state, having taken to either going off on her own or staring at the books nic left her with, after two very harrowing incidents.
but she sees that name, and she knows she has to say something.
even if it's partially a lie.]

....i'm managing, tsuna. i can't say it's been an easy few days, but.....i'm managing. keeping myself busy.
i'm glad to know you're alright. is there...something wrong?
[sadly, it's what she's come to expect, considering.
what fresh hell now? is he in trouble? is someone else dead?
even worse, she won't even be surprised if the answer's yes.]
[It takes her a couple of hours to get back to him, if only because she's been unconscious, no thanks to those fateful 30 seconds of her life that she'd lost. She made an attempt to get to the medical rover by herself. She lost consciousness only a quarter of the way there, coming to lie in the underbrush in trying to avoid people.
Looks like she can't anymore. Especially---especially not Kaneki.
Painfully, she barely manages to type out---she can hardly move at the moment, either---]

FROM: laufeyson.loki@cdc.org Hello! Concerning the recent announcement, I thought I'd take a moment to check in with you.
[Ah...Kaiken has become a bit cozier (or...lonelier, depending on how you look at it), hasn't it? Akame at first frowns at the otherwise unfamiliar name, but figures this message ought to be of some importance, considering the person seems to be addressing her in particular...]

[this corn maze sent chills up his spine.]
[had a duffel bag on his back and his durable Harpy uniform on, but the corn rose high and he was only five foot three on a good day, anyway. hm. this didn't seem like the time to venture in wildly, or without anyone else...]
haunted maze with complementary starbucks gomen for my lateness
[He'll hear a clink from a few paces behind him. It's not terribly light out, and the various abandoned buildings, in various stages of decay, cast odd shadows from equally weird angles, making it slightly difficult even for Akame to discern just what's actually there and what's not a trick of the eyes.
Hinata is no exception, as the maze is positioned in the midst of surrounding residential houses, some of them lopsided and dilapidated from time and disuse, and his slight form amidst the shadows give him an almost-spectral appearance, prompting Akame to nearly draw Kiri-Ichimonji---a nasty-looking katana---until her vision adjusts and she realizes...it's. Well. It's Hinata. He looks well (aside from the fact that she may have startled him), which is a relief. She relaxes slightly, and proceeds to look a little guilty.]
...Ah, hello, Hinata---I'm sorry if I scared you; I...I mistook you...for something else. [While she lets the sword fall back into its sheath, her grip on it does not relent. After that foray into the underground, she's leaving nothing to chance, although she now appears surprised rather than vigilant. She straightens, looking from him to the sprawling corn maze before them. A couple of (admittedly eerie-looking, due to their decaying appearances) mannequins, dressed as zombie husband-and-wife farmers, are stationed at the maze's entrance in greeting.] Is this...some kind of attraction?
